Case study: OI 2018 AI Readiness Index

Launching the world’s first AI Readiness Index with engagement from the UK Prime Minister

Oxford Insights is a consultancy that advises organisations and governments on strategic, cultural and leadership opportunities arising from digital transformation.

Oxford Insights produce the AI Readiness index, which demonstrates government’s preparedness to implement Artificial Intelligence in public service delivery. They engaged us to help launch the index, and achieve impact with audiences at senior levels of government and business.

Our response

We worked with Oxford Insights prior to the launch of the 2018 AI Index, which showed that the UK ranked first. The launch coincided with a government-commissioned report, which revealed that the UK was well placed to become a global leader in AI, and followed on from the Autumn Budget which pledged £75m for AI development.

Realising the strategic importance of the findings for the UK Government, we liaised with DCMS to secure a comment from the Secretary of State to include in our announcement, and we issued the story to media and stakeholders worldwide.

“We could not be happier with the amazing response we’ve received to the AI Index – and we couldn’t have done it without Allegory”
Emma Martinho-Truswell
COO, Oxford Insights

The outcome

Our announcement was amplified by media outlets – including the Daily Mail, Mirror and Tech UK – and public officials around the world. The then-UK PM Theresa May cited the index’s findings in her address at the 2018 World Economic Forum in Davos, reaching over 2,500 business leaders, international political leaders, economists and journalists. The index was also discussed in a House of Lords select committee.

With support from DCMS and No 10 Downing Street, the announcement also generated significant engagement on social media, with the top tweet achieving over 10k impressions.

As a result, the report had significant global impact among Oxford Insights’ target audiences, cementing their position as a trusted consultancy to governments. This also increased their Twitter following by 25%, and generated thousands of views of the AI Index page on their website.
