Case study: Medicines Discovery Catapult

A full service communication function to establish the MDC as a key player in the industry

The Medicines Discovery Catapult (MDC) connects SME’s, academics and innovators to accelerate research and developments in the drug discovery world. We were brought in at the inception of the MDC to develop a communication strategy that raised their profile and positioned them as a key player in the industry. 

Our response

Working collaboratively with MDC, we developed a media strategy that targeted healthcare professionals, research organisations, funding bodies and patient advocacy groups with key messages. We also developed a journalist contact programme for the MDC’s CEO.

Our team also helped at the launch of their new Antimicrobial Resistance laboratory and provided crisis communications when the sister Catapult – the Precision Medicine Catapult – closed, re-allocating some responsibilities to the MDC.

The outcome

Our media strategy and journalist contact programme helped to secure coverage with an audience reach of 15 million. This included interviews in The Times, Sunday Times, Financial Times, Economist, Drugs Discovery World and Pharma Field.
